Ford has become the first ever car manufacturer to launch its new car at a gaming event.
Its new Ranger Raptor was unveiled at Gamescom held in Cologne. The car was shown at the annual event within a 4D race simulator featured in the new Xbox racing game Forza Horizon 4 which is due to be released in October.
It is believed that gamers have a passion for both cars and racing and Ford see their brand as a core part of racing so it seemed like a natural fit for them.
Europes largest game fair Gamescom is held in Cologne where it is transformed into a Mecca for gaming enthusiasts. The event attracts around 370,000 people each year from 114 different countries. The off roader vehicle was launched into the Asian market earlier this year but this European launch allowed Ford to tap into a younger audience they may not have been able to attract previously. The perception is that all gamers are teenagers but this is not necessarily the case.
Forming that brand connection early on helps create future customers.
Michael Baumann, Ford said “The experience you get playing a racing game today is so realistic and so close to being in the actual vehicle.”
Ford have gone where no other car manufacturer has gone before, being the first to launch at a Games show. They have no plans to stop there so watch this space.
