Motokiki supports “Home Safely” TyreSafe campaign

TyreSafe, The UK’s tyre safety charity, have launched a new awareness campaign targeting parents who spend a lot of time driving their children to swimming lessons, dance, football, karate and other social activities. By the time your child hits 20, on average - you would have spent roughly 3,000 hours driving them around. That equates to a whole year's worth of sleep!

On average parents can clock up an extra 30 miles a week chauffeuring their children to various clubs, hobbies and activity groups. This also adds a lot of wear and tear on your car tyres.

The home safely campaign raises awareness and highlights the importance of having healthy tyres - especially when parents spend so much time driving with such precious cargo.

It’s always the driver's responsibility to check the tyres on the car to make sure they are safe and healthy however it’s estimated one in four parents may be driving around on illegal or poorly maintained tyres.

The ‘Home Safely on Safe Tyres’ campaign aims to highlight the importance of safe and healthy tyres. Tyresafe are also trying to minimise the risk to drivers and passengers on our roads. The legal tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm. For each illegal tyre on your car comes with 3 penalty points and a fine up to £2,500.

Stuart Jackson, Chairman of TyreSafe has said “Taking children to the activities they love, from Guiding or Scout organisations, to football and swimming, and everything in between, is an almost daily occurrence for most parents. It’s vital that parents all remember the car tyres are the only part of the car in contact with the road, which makes their maintenance essential. Whether you are a parent, grandparent or guardian, checking your tyres once a month is the minimum that can be done to make sure we get them home safely on safe tyres.”
