Many students are about to take their first steps into the world of independence. It’s a big responsibility and navigating your way through the “University of Life” needs some new skills.
Although most students are a dab hand at throwing a meal together or being able to use a washing machine, there’s always a handful who simply do not have a clue. (I was one of them!)
One student letting agency tell the story about a call to their help line, where one of their students was heating up their clothes… Seems they hadn’t come across a washer-dryer before! Eeek!
The responsibility of renting a property is burdensome for many. Some tenants have never had to change a light bulb or flick the trip switch on a fuse board.
Our advice is to do your homework, establish a good relationship with your landlord who will often help out, call on parents for advice and there is always YouTube for instruction videos.
It’s not just accommodation that students need to consider either. Many of them take their cars with them to University. When travelling back home at holiday time, car loaded up with dirty washing and crammed with food on the return journey, many students would not think about checking their tyres before they take off.
With cars that may be sitting idle for periods of time while they attend lectures and hit the library for extra study ( or maybe the occasional recreational activity ) it’s a good idea to check your tyres regularly to prevent any delays in getting home.
