The Dunlop story starts with the company founder, John Boyd Dunlop, who patented the first pneumatic tyre in 1888. Ten years later, the first Dunlop tyres were sold and this remarkable innovation transformed the comfort and safety of early cars, as well as making them handle in a much more predictable fashion.
Now owned by Goodyear, Dunlop continues to innovate in many different areas of tyre use and technology. It’s the sole supplier to the British Touring Car Championship of race tyres and its products are also used in the Britcar Dunlop Endurance Championship that is widely recognised as one of the toughest, most closely fought race series in the world.
With its long tradition in motorsport, Dunlop has become a favourite with drivers of high-performance cars. To underline this, the firm’s Sport Maxx Race 2 tyre is the factory-fitted option for the sensational Porsche 911 GT3 and GT2 RS models. Dunlop also works with Audi, BMW and AMG as well as supplying tyres to owners of SUVs looking for the best on-road results.
